Wild Sanctuary
Belonging to the Living Earth
Wild Sanctuary is a community that gathers outdoors to deepen our relationship with the living world, with one another, and with the Sacred Mystery present in all things.
We believe that slowing down, paying attention, and spending time in the natural world can awaken a deeper sense of belonging. Through silence, reflection, shared practices, and attentive presence, we seek to remember that we are not separate from Creation but participants within it.
The word sanctuary speaks to what we hope to cultivate—a place of refuge, reverence, and welcome. Like a wildlife sanctuary, it is a place where life is honored and protected. Like a sacred sanctuary, it is a place where we become more aware of the Holy presence that surrounds and sustains us.
Our gatherings may include poetry and reflection, and are grounded in time spent wandering, listening, observing, and simply being present to the land. Rather than rushing toward answers, we seek to cultivate attention, wonder, gratitude, and kinship.
We hope participants leave with a deeper sense of belonging—to the Earth, to one another, and to the great community of life.
Wild Sanctuary is part of the broader Wild Church movement while developing its own unique expression here in central Iowa.
All are welcome.
We meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 4:00 pm year round. The location changes but will be shared with the Wild Sanctuary email list. Contact Lynn Heuss to be included.
